Although the fact that my chick has five toes may be insignificant, I still find it interesting that it’s the only chick from the entire clutch with the fifth toe. The origin of the eggs are known but it’s unknown if only the one hen laid them and if the one hen mated with more than one rooster. I’m still curious to know which breeds my mixed breed chicks may be. The eggs were found in a neighborhood with stray chickens. The speckled hen was caught sitting on them. Anybody want to take a guess just for the heck of it? I did read that there are few breeds with five toes. The chickens photoed are the ones that hang out in the area where they eggs were found. The chicks hatched from white eggs with possibly a tint of another color but barely noticeable. Maybe very, very, very lightly tinted blue if at all.

The fiver toes is dominant. The yellow shanks rule out Silkie for me.

The no leg feathering rules out Faverolle and no crest rules out some others.

I'm thinking maybe Dorking cross.. or even just cross of a cross.

Fun mystery.. what is the comb type on that chick?

Consider asking at this thread..

Thank you. I posted over in that thread. Busy week so sorry for the delayed reply. Here’s a photo of its comb. To be continued….photos aren’t uploading here nor there in the other thread. Maybe website issue. I’ll try again later.

5 toes is caused by a dominant gene.
So if the chick has 5 toes, it should have at least one parent with 5 toes.

If the chickens are strays, they may already be mixed rather than purebreds of any kind.
By the time you have mixes that mix again, you may not be able to tell much about the possible breeds that went into the mix.

And depending on how long those stray chickens have been living there, they may not even have purebred ancestors of any breed. Not every chicken does.
