Fizzy drinks bad for ducks and chickens?

Hi,

Over the weekend it was sunny and I was sat outside on the grass with my duck and chickens playing around me while enjoying a can of fizzy ginger beer. The duck, being naughty as she is, nibbled the can and it fell over spilling ginger beer into the grass, which fizzed up.
Duck looked at it and drank a bit, then made that duck noise they do when they are excited, and she proceeded to slurp the rest up. The chickens had a try but weren't that interested.
I found this amusing and gave her a very small bowl with some in, about 20ml, and she loved it.

It then dawned on me that I could have been a complete muppet and the fact it's fizzy, or could contain some nasties, could be harmful to them...a bit like chocolate is.

This is bad right?

CHeers,

I don't know abou the fizz, but I am assuming (pardon my naivety, never heard of ginger beer) that this was an alcoholic beverage? I would worry more about the alcohol being harmful than the carbonation. I know alcohol is supposed to be toxic to dogs and cats ... but also know people who get a kick out of trying to get their dogs and cats drunk

Fizzy Ginger Beer has 0% alchohol...in fact here in England you will be very hard pushed to find any ginger beer with alchohol in it. It's called beer, but it's far from beer

I wasn't sure since I had never heard of it. Or maybe something like ginger ale? I love ginger ale
