Flag at half staff for Whitney Houston

Perfect!

Yep, probably. I personally don't feel the American flag should be dipped for pop icons or just any public figure, willy-nilly. If you are going to half mast the nation's flag it ought to stand for something other than "Hey, everyone, someone famous died and we need to show the world we are sad about it!"

It should be reserved for those who have made personal sacrifice of life to serve their country or their countrymen in some capacity other than mere entertainment. Anything less just cheapens the action so that the flag could just fly half mast all the time, which would be fitting if it has no more reverence or meaning than to dip for anything less than service to country or countrymen, great acts of heroism doing the same, a great loss during battle, etc.

That was AFTER the Army. People are angry about the whole situation because we are a nation at war right now. When Elvis died there were no major conflicts.

Audie Murphy also severely beat a man because said man abused a dog(after the Army ) and he still got full honors. Originally Posted by RHRanch

I disagree with putting the nations flag at half mast for Whitney. With all of the good that she did and I thank God for that, she didn't deserve our nations flag.If this so called Governor was thinking he should have put the State Flag at half mast.He needed to think of his State and not the entire nation.I am a Viet Nam Vet and I do take offense to this.I volunteered to go in and defend my country,to possibly put my life in harms way for my Country and Love ones.A life is worth more than money.I'm not saying she shouldn't have been recognized for her contribution but in another way. They don't put War Hero's in the sidewalks of Hollywood and Stars don't deserve being honored with the nations flag,Unless they have served The United States. There are other ways that these people can be honored.

Yanno - that's a good point!

Someone brought this up earlier, which I don't understand. She was the one who was being abused. How could that be looked on her poorly?

It is no shame to be a victim of domestic violence, for sure. To go back over and over for the same treatment when you have all the ways and means of escaping the situation, doesn't cry "victim" to me...it cries "attention". Young girls are watching these public icons for how to act and modeling their own behavior after their actions, as if it is glamorous to have your face beat in and go back for more.

It was disrespectful to the flag and to those who serve their country and their community. I am unaware of any acts of community service or acts of valor the Whitney ever committed. She had a beautiful voice, but she was a drug addict who didn't live up to her potential. I wish she had lived longer and that she would have straightened her life out...but it is too late.

I am not really sure how any blame can be assessed to either spouse if both choose to do drugs and alcohol and then one gets the exclusive right to accuse the other for DV, that just doesn't make sense. Any couple I have ever been acquainted with that BOTH did drugs pretty much had coming what each other dished out.

Maybe fly the flag at half mast for the kids.
