Flagstone for grit?

Our sidewalk shed a few layers of flagstone when I recently pressured washer it. If I smash this up real fine is it acceptable to use as grit for almost 2 week old chicks! Thanks!

How hard is it? Or is it pretty crumbly? I only worry that it might be too soft, but might be ok for now.
