Anyone ever experienced anything like this on their chickens? This is our old girl we inherited, at least 6-7 years old. She doesn’t seem to really use her preening gland like she should. Her skin is flakey and peely all the time. The vet prescribe Baytril, and now we are about to try Doxy. Any experience with this kind of skin?

Does she dust bath? If not, then as suggested you may want to help her.

Is her preening gland functional? It's not red/swollen or anything like that?

Giving vitamins is a good idea.
She does dust bathe yes. And her preening gland looks normal now, but when I squeeze it, not much comes out. I don’t think it is operating to its full capacity, but I also think in her old age, she is starting to neglect herself a bit. It’s not very often I see her preen herself at all.

It does sound like she is not preening herself, and it may be due to her advanced age. They can neglect their scratching, and toenails may also need to be trimmed slightly.
