I've got 16 chickens an 4 dogs and fleas . I thought chickens are fleas. I've bathed the dogs weekly vacuumed daily an still no help the house the yard my animals the chickens seem fine. I need advice HELP

You may want to repost in Predators & Pest forum for replies.

Vet has a tropical med to rid dogs of fleas, feed store has pesticide for yard & chickens, I've used baking soda sprinkled & worked into carpets then vacuum or there are sprays & foggers at the stores. Just remember, you're going to have to repeat treatment all the way around for a few months as eggs do hatch :sick

Cat and dog fleas do NOT also infest chickens! Your dogs need to be managed for the fleas, with something like Frontline, Nexgard, or the like, monthly, for months. Their bedding needs to be changed, or run through the washer and dryer. If your chickens have fleas, then treat them and their coop with permethrin spray (in the USA) and repeat in two weeks, at least one more time.

You need to attack the fleas on several fronts. There are products available to spray the yard. We have used bombs to rid the house of fleas. You set these off in several rooms and then leave the house for several hours. I get an oral medication from my vet. I forget what it is but it lasts for three months. Frequent vacuuming of rugs and upholstery in the house is very helpful but you need some sort of an insecticide in the vacuum bag so the fleas can't crawl back out. Wash pet bedding frequently. Put a flea powder on the feet and legs of your dog. When he goes outside, the fleas jump on the dog's legs first. Before you do this make sure the flea powder is not incompatible with the oral medication. As a last resort, you may want to call an exterminator.

Even when I was using topical flea treatment I still had issues. Then asking my vet found out a lot of fleas have become immune to topical treatments. She gave her an oral pill to take once a month some of the oral medication last three months. I know some people spray their yards but I don’t do that because I have chickens and goats that eat my grass. But as far as in your house there is a product called flea busters. It’s The safest indoor carpet powder for fleas and man it works! As long as you follow the directions. A jug of it is $50 but it covers 1200 ft.² whether or not you use the powder when you’re vacuuming make sure you get corners and underneath furniture and inside furniture very well because they like to hide in the very small dark spaces. I don’t like to usually use chemicals or powders or things of that nature but sometimes you have no choice

One thing I didn't mention is that we used to get a spray for the yard that inhibited the reproductive cycle and development of the flea. It was non toxic to other animals. I don't know if these products are still available, but it is something worth looking into.

Didn’t know there was a spray for your yard that didn’t hurt the animals. That’s pretty awesome I’ll have to look into finding that. Never could find them before

It may not still be available. It has been years since I bought any and I have forgotten what it was called or who made it. It did work though and it was something the fleas could not build up an immunity to.
