Need a little pest control help. My duck house seems to be a fly house as well. I went and got pea gravel like I have seen posted and it has not helped at much, bought fly traps to put outside of the duck house higher up and even made a small garden next to the duck house with plants like rosemary and mint which is said to repel flies. Still the house seems to have ton of flies by mid day when the ducks are not in their home. Any advice on what I can do to help eliminate the fly problem that is also duck safe?

If you want to stay with natural methods, check out Fly Predators, they are tiny parasitic wasps (they don't sting) that lay their eggs in fly pupas so it stops the life cycle. You order them and dump them out near where you have the fly problem.

I use a lot of fly paper. They are probably breeding in wet areas. I've used fly predators in the past around my horses and haven't had a ton of change but they are worth a shot especially in a smaller area.

We use hay for bedding and in the warmer months I clean out their pen every 3-4wks and lay the hay out in their yard and allow them to forage thru the hay and also in their pen for about 5-6hrs to allow it to dry and them a chance to bill the dirt under the hay....they are great fly catchers and will devour the larva and clean it up pretty good. There really isn't much of a fly problem around the bird house, but the goat house is a bit different....I have thought about putting some resident ducks over there with the goats....:)

Thank you everyone for your help, i went and bought Gordon's Permethrin on my lunch break and will try to see how that works in their duck house
