Flies no more!! Found the perfect fly repellent.

I have hung 4 from a 6 pack but have not seen a reduction in the fly population and the smell is about to drive my nose crazy...am dealing with a sinus infection to boot.

The flies have been awful this year!

Day 4 - Tree under dining table on the front terrace.

Even less flies about, it's still stinkin' away pretty much as strong as it started.

I've also noticed a reduction in mosquitos at night, in fact last night I didn't get a single bite.

I'll need to check properly tonight but last night I noticed there were no house geckos above the dining table. Plenty about 5 metres along the terrace though. Could it also chase off reptiles? So could it be a snake deterrent?

Hey guys.....I've been trying this....been a few days now and it started working almost immediately for me...in fact I've had only a few flies in my coop since I've hung them and whats in there has been dying to get out when I open the screen door! It smells heavenly to me...I love vanilla tho....I've got 3 standard home size windows in my coop (8x12) and a standard size front door we put in, with a screen door so lots of ventilation, so my coop doesnt stink to begin with and the vanilla isnt over powering either...but its been AWESOME to have no flies!!!!!!!! THIS has been the neatest thing I've came across in ages! Cant wait to try it on my front porch, hoping it works on spiders!

So...get this! I went into the barn today and could smell rotten egg. The hens do go in and out and even occasionally lay an egg in the top of the shavings bag!

Well apparently my DD had not checked the shavings bag for eggs and there were two eggs and one broken....and stinking!!! There were flies all over the bag and in the barn.

I pulled out the egg mess and gave the top of the bag a quick spray with the Magic vanilla tree aerosol. When I came back 30 minutes later all the flies were gone from the bag and out of the barn completely. I went through the coops and gave a quick spray to all of the hanging "trees" to refresh them.

In case you missed the post, Auto Zone has the Magic Tree Vanillaroma in a small aerosol spray can. I am using it to refresh the "trees" when they begin to lose their effectiveness.

I'm actually getting used to the smell. I guess when something works that well you can learn to like it!!

Tried the trees - $2.29 at TSC for a 3-pack - the flies are still there, but the numbers seem to be dwindling. Hung one outside, and they seem to be staying away
Smells good in the coop for a change!

Hi there, I was just wondering if you think that using an aerosol is okay - I know that chickens have sensitive respiratory systems. Oil in cedar chips is not good for them, etc. Maybe this is such a small amount that it's not a problem, but I just wanted to hear what others thought.

Thanks

Oh, the birds weren't anywhere near the aerosol spray. It was inside the barn where the feed is. I sprayed it directly onto the nasty area where the egg broke.

When I'm in the coops where the Magic "trees" are hanging, I hold the spray tip about 1/2 inch from the tree and give a quick burst. Just enough to add a bit more fragrance to it.

I know that they are a LOT happier birds without the flies and mosquitoes driving them crazy...and us!!

An alternative - Renuzit cone air freshener in Christmas Cookie. It's what I could find in the closet. Opened it all the way and put it on the porch. An hour later, no flies! I think I'll move it to the deck and see if the flies leave. They are really bad out there and have been for years. The smelly fly traps do nothing.

I am on day two of the vanilla air fresheners. I have noticed a large drop in the flies. I hung 3 small ones and 1 large one in our 8 x 5 coop. Who came up with this idea and what took so long?? I am going to buy a few more.

I started this thread, but I have to give credit to someone else who mentioned it in another thread about flies. Everyday I am continually amazed at how well they work for us. There are NO flies inside the coops/pens...only a few out in the turn out paddocks.
