Flies no more!! Found the perfect fly repellent.

I guess I could buy some more and see what happens

Oh and don't bother wasting your money on , hmmmm what is the name of it, I think it is something like St Grobains Natural something. It comes in a bag and it is little granules. It works for less then a day and you have to use a LOT of it and then the next day the flies are back. It's expensive too.

Hubs and I sometimes go out in the evening to let the chickens out to range for a while before bed. The mosquitos are bad this year because of all the rain... well, we had no bug spray! A little googling and I found out that you can pat some vanilla extract on yourself and most bugs will leave you alone as they don't like the smell! It works!

I'm going to try the vanilla air fresheners in the coop too!

Well, the coop certainly smells better.

It's only 50°F, and has been breezy and rainy here, so I can't say that it works yet... no flies to speak of. Wait til we get a couple of 70°F + days.

catnip keeps skeeters away ohio state is trying to patent the chemical that works so good I grow a good amount of it just wipe my arms and legs and face neck with it when I go out into the yard. the little vanila scented trees my quail pens are under a lean-to it is about 6-7 feet deep and 12-15 feet long with 9 of them little trees I do not see any differance my fly catcher strips are full and my soda bottle traps are just starting to work.

Dang. I'm just not understanding why this seems to have worked so well for me and not so much for others. I was out in the coop and yard all day yesterday and I don't recall seeing any flies.

A month ago, the flies were HORRIBLE. I hung up a stinky trap just outside the coops and it did attract some flies, but they were still bad. That's when I read about the vanilla trees and bought a dozen of them, hung them up and VOILA...no more files...at all...period.

I'm with you. I HATE vanilla smell... anything vanilla. lol.

I think I would rather deal with the stinky fly traps. But then again, I could always hold my nose doing chores.
