I have a lot of flies. We have horses and lots of manure or at least I am using that as my excuse for having so many flies around.
My toddler and I like to swat them and feed them to the chicks who love them.
I am pretty sure all of these flies are home bred chemical free (organic!) flies.
The chicks have been getting starter as well as chick grit (free choice).
Can I assume the flies are an okay treat?
When we hold them to pet them they already are perking up and trying to catch their own!

I would assume flies are totally fine for your chickies!

I was cracking up at the "organic flies"! Too funny!

ETA, I see adult chickens chasing flies all the time anyway, so I would think the babies enjoy them too.

I have some fluorescent outdoor lights attracting nearly a hundred june bugs or june beetles a night.

Once I get my chicks underway, I think they will have a steady treat in the morning.

today we skipped picking up the flies and just let the BR chick loose in the kitchen to pick up the flies herself. She did great!
