Flies

For flies, if DE doesnt work then there must be something other than moisture causing the issue. For mites and such, it kills on contact, but flies are a little larger and has less of an impact physically. Thats also good news though since you can rule out moisture as a concern if DE didnt help the situation.

When my birds were infested with mites, I treated them and their coop for a couple of weeks with DE and they were still loaded with the mites. At first I thought the birds were molting but they weren't getting their feathers back in and that is when I discovered the mites. I was afraid I might loose some birds if I didn't try something else. I did a little research and discovered Elector PSP which is quite expensive and Permethrin which cost way less. I started treating the birds with the permethrin and the coops too. After treating the birds and the coops with the permethrin they slowly started to improve. Eventually they got their feathers back in and no more mites. I had a lot of flies in the coops and as an added bonus it also eliminated the flies. I'm Glad the DE worked for you Permethrin worked for me and there is no egg withdrawal period.

Thank you everyone for your suggestion! The flies have gotten better (thank the Lord) but will definately check these things out next time I have a problem. Which there always seems to be. :)

I used to screw up my hatches by candling way too much. I'd get super antsy with my energies and just want to do

Wow that's a first I've heard of that. DE works by physically killing anything small enough to touch it. Maybe you had giant mites lol. Over all the years, if i've ever had mites, I'd just clean out the coop and dust it with a good amount of DE and do that once every 5 days. Never had any mites or fleas be able to stand up to it. They must be gettin some better shielding.
