We have an electronic pop door and the batteries died so all our settings were off.. Hubs went to let them out in the morning and noticed that many of them flew out the door and into the screen wall at the end of the ladder... I'm not sure if this happened because they were cooped up a bit longer than usual or because this is just how they roll. There are a lot of feathers loose (I just thought it was from them growing.)
Is it normal for them to fly in the coop and smack into the walls?

Yep. Mine are 6 weeks and do the same thing!

If the roost doesn't have enough landing space in front of it, yes they can smack into walls. I have just enough to avoid that but I've nearly had hens fly right into me off the roost in their hurry to get out in the morning, if the auto door doesn't work or has been disabled on purpose.
