Flight Pen

Hi I am building a new loft and flight pen for my pigeons. I have been looking at alot of pictures of coops and lofts.Why are the pens for chickens on the ground up while the pens for pigeons are a few feet off the ground? Thanks Alex

#1. chickens spend most of their day scratching and pecking. Most pigeons don't do that.
#2. Pigeons poo like you would not believe. Having a mesh bottom raised off the ground it's easyer to clean.
It's amazing how much poo such a small bird can produce!
