Float testing late hatching eggs

Has anyone heard of float testing late hatching eggs??
Yes I have and I did this test back in March. My white silkie was sitting on 5 eggs. Some were hers and some were from full sized birds. When I would candle them they didn't appear viable. I didn't want to give up hope since I was new to it. When it came time for hatch 3 eggs were left unhatched. I float tested and it gave me the information I needed and confirmed what I was afraid of. I took where eggs outside to open them up to see what went wrong. One was not fertile and was just a rotten egg (I'm lucky it didn't explode on her nest) and the other 2 were quitters. They appeared to have quit on about day 14 thru 16. I assume due to her size she was unable to keep all warm as they should of been except for the infertile one of course. Before I float tested I checked the egg for any pips and cracks. I made sure the water was the preferred temperature and depth.

I did the egg test on 3 eggs this morning 1 egg floated and every now and again it gave a little wobble so I think it will hatch. The other 2 sunk and didn't move so decided they were dead opened the first to find a live chick not quite developed but alive so my advice is candle only, float test no good in my eyes

That's so unfortunate to hear! I thought for sure it would be more successful with others than that. It worked for me but I already had an idea from when I candled them. How late hatching are they?
