Floating air sacks.

The USPS Service while on route drive continuously, so it is very possible that they were driven! Yes, they said on shipped eggs to expect a 50 percent hatch rate, that is good! I have 24 shipped silkie eggs in my incubator now. They are on day 13, and I had 5 infertile and 3 had blood rings, so I am left with 16 eggs that seem like they are developing normally so far! I think a low hatch rare is expected with shipped eggs, unfortunately! How long have your eggs been in the incubator? You should be able to candle them soon to see if they are viable or not.

Keep us posted!!!;)

You must turn the eggs! Tilting would be considered turning, if you have a standard turner that holds the eggs upright I would keep the turner on until the last three days. I recently had two batches of eggs with extremely bad tremulous aircells, out of 5 doz. eggs I ended up with 16 chicks. Not great but next year I'll be breeding them so it was enough to get me started.

Today is day 8, they are due July 9th. I originally put them in the still air incubator. When I candled them on the 22nd and saw the floating air sacks I moved them into the incubator with a fan and egg turner. Only 3 of them looked clear, 2 of them looked like they might already have babies in them, 3 of them had veining and the bombast? The rest were murky in the middle, too soon to tell anything. 9 of them I couldn't find the air sacks but all the rest had floating air sacks.

The sad thing is that she also sent me Silkie and Cochin Bantam eggs. I really want some Silkies to do some brooding for me. It wouldn't hurt if one turned out to be particularly sweet and cuddly and wanted me as a pet. I'm afraid all of them won't make it, the Silkies and Cochins.

As far as anyone knows, has anyone received eggs through the mail that didn't have floating cells?

I have, but it's rare. I've only ever gotten one single normal shipped egg but most of them, for the most part, had intact air cells, albeit saddle-shaped. But every shipment I've gotten had at least one rolling air cell, if not scrambled outright.

What causes it? I thought they flew the eggs so it might have something to do with the altitude but if they are driving them, is it vibrations?

I think that's the most likely culprit, yeah. Mail trucks sure can be bumpy! And of course there's mail plane turbulence, bad handling by underpaid sorters, bumps, scrapes and god forbid, someone dropping the package..."fragile" and "caution: live cargo" doesn't really mean anything to these people. :/
