So am I....for four mallards. Plan to float it in an old swimming pool that is now a pond with bullfrogs and dragonflies. Have been looking at various designs. Need to get busy with it and have it ready in 2 weeks. Have googled some today under the heading "floating duck houses" and there are some interesting designs. Planning to use scrap plywood and 2x2, 1x2, 2x4 and lattice for mine and make it buoyant with large styrofoam blocks I was given by the man at TSC.Plan on building a floating duck house for a pair of mallards. That is so nice. now how are they going to be protected from the swimming preds? or will they only be here during the day?
Quote: They are here and in nearby woods, meadows and barn 24/7. Their remaining protection is built in - they will have to fly to another area of the yard. This floating house will protect them from a lot of predators, including flying ones at night. I don't think a raccoon, opossum, bobcat or fox will be all that eager to swim to them nor will be able to do so silently.
Glad they like it, it's a beautiful place you have for them, and gorgeous ducks too.
