Flock massacred

Oh man 15 at once I don't even know what I would do with myself. Is there any possibility it could be a neighbor dog? I have lost my rooster to a raccoon before and he came back the next night, only seemed to take one at a time. Friend also had that same thing happen except he lost two a night. Well whatever it was I'm sorry and good luck with your new ones.

I keep a live trap set about 30 feet away from my coup from spring to fall. This year I am investing in foothold coilspring traps due to all of the coon evidence in the corn field behind my house. The coons (and deer) have eaten about four rown of corn on three sides of the field!

I never thought chickens would get me into trapping in the winter. I use to do a little when I was a kid, but this is completely different. I don't really care about selling the hide for money the motivator is to cut down on the chicken eating populace in my neighborhood.

We dug down into our run and put hardware cloth under the whole thing.
Used screws and washers every 6inches then covered it with rocks and dirt.
I have a 2ft skirt of hardware cloth around our whole set-up but it isn't enough for digging/tunneling creatures.

So sorry for your loss. Isn't it amazing how attached you get to your chickens.
Electric fences are a great deterrent. I bought a very small fence charger at Lowes for $40. and some plastic posts to attach the insulators and wire to.. Ran it around the perimeter of of my chiken pen..it kept away all predators for years. Great investment if you plan on getting new chickens.
Good luck..hope you try again.

Only reason I still have my flock is because they are protected by electric fencing. And still I have to be very vigilant.

I am so sorry for your loss. Please give your wife a big hug from me. And you get one too. That is terrible.
