Flock numbers to meet family's needs?

We grew our first batch out in the garage...away from prying eyes. We even butchered them in the back yard (six foot privacy fence) without the neighbors suspecting. No way the neighborhood vigilence commitee would approve of my little opperation. We did have one neighbor who asked my DH why we were parking in the driveway--wanted to know what we were using the garage for. My DH told him straight up where upon he said he must see them. He had all kinds of questions about chickens. Glad we have an acre now that we can do with as we wish.
