Flock of chicks sick--odd neck movements, barely moving, eyes mostly closed...HELP!

It sounds like you need to start corrid. I would assume it is form of cocci. Start treatment and get these guys in the sun. Keep them out of drafts. Chickens do not do well with out, fresh air, places to run, and the sun on there face. I never recommend using any type of drug, but, it sounds like you are going to loose them all if you don't. The corrid will treat tummy issues and lack of eating. The sun will take care of the stargazing.

I'm new to this forum & just noticed one of my three chicks has suddenly become very inactive, wants to sit still in one place with eyes closed, not eating or drink. No wired neck movements though.

May I ask what is corridor and how do I administer it if the bird is not eating or drinking?

What kind of medication is it? Liquid? Pills? If it is liquid, put it in a syringe and push it into the back of her mouth, right down her throat. If it is a pill, push it down their throat, then lift up their head and rub their neck until they swallow it.

Corid is a coccidiostat. Comes in either liquid or powder form, you mix it up in their water. If a chicken is not eating or drinking on it's own you can use a dropper or needless syringe to carefully give it some of the solution. Either put a few drops on the side of the beak until she takes it in or very carefully dribble some inside her beak and let her swallow. Do this every couple of hours the first day or so of treatment. You must be very careful not to go to fast or you risk having the chicken aspirate it into her lungs.

I would highly suggest a course of Corid for both your chickens and the OP's. It is sold at most feed stores, look for it in the cattle dept. Dose for the powder is 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water for 5 to 7 days. Dose for liquid is 9.5 ml per gallon. Make it up fresh every day and complete the full 5 to 7 days even if they show great improvement after just a day or so.

I don't know if coccidiosis is what's going on with the OP's chicks or not but you certainly need to rule it out.

Corid comes in liquid or powder. I bought liquid in the cattle isle at Coastal. I add 1/2 teaspoon to one quart of water. ALL your chicks that were with the sick ones should be drinking this. For at least 5-7 days. I gave my sick chicks a couple drops of straight corid in a dropper. Symptoms of coccidia show up around day 3 of the sickness. Day 5-6 is when they would typically die from it. Start meds as soon as you notice. After 1st treatment wait 2 weeks and do the treatment again. Hope this helps. Jusr saved a sick chick with this.

for cocci you need corid...Durmycin is an antibiotic and it is used for one type of cocci..you would need a culture to see if it would work for the type you have.

Thank you, I have an off topic question too. My flock is 7 weeks old & I've been feeding them exclusively starter/grower. Do I need to feed them anything else like grit? And what does grit provide them? Thank you.
