Ugh, looks like my flock of thirty is rapidly catching this respiratory illness. Yesterday afternoon I went out to the coop to let the group out for some free ranging pleasure. One of the silkies was slow to get up and upon further inspection I noticed that her eye was swollen and she had some labored breathing. Then I heard another bird wheezing inside the coop-another silkie. I removed those birds to a cage and started them on Tylan 50 orally. I check the birds over at night when I lock them in the coop and I did not hear any other unusual wheezing. This morning when I went out to let them out there were 6 other birds wheezing. I gave them all Tylan 50. This is spreading rapidly. After researching here and other sites I don't think it is coryza-no fowl smell. I hate to start culling without a valiant attempt at treating. I know they can mask illness for a while but this seems to have shown up over night. The symptoms: wheezing, gurgling, lethargy, sneezing. I don't have anywhere to quarantine many birds and I'm afraid this will knock out my entire flock! Aside from the Tylan what else can I do to help them? Thanks, I always appreciate the advice here.

Help anyone. Would like to get to the tractor supply today before closing if there is something I can get there to help. Thanks

I always use Tylan50 injectable. for large birds 1/2cc for small birds 1/4 cc in the breast muscle once daily for 5 days. you can also use Gallamycine water soluble. for respiratory. tylan injections have always worked well for me.

Thanks I am using Tylan 50 orally. I have had good luck with that for 1 little silkie who has trouble every spring and fall during that rainy time. I just wondered if there is anything else I can do.

Amazingly enough, the Tylan seems to be working. I haven't lost a bird yet. I have been afraid to go into the coop in the morning for fear of finding dead birds. I have been chicken keeping for over 10 years collectively and have never encountered anything like this.
I have one more question. If after the 5 days are up and the birds are still not completely cured, will the Tylan keep working if I stop using it or should I continue using it on the birds that still sound congested even after the 5 days. Thank you.
