Flock Up and Quits Laying...to a Hen

Hi. Yes the walls have many square feet of hardware cloth panels to ventilate the coop. And the layer flock is our son 's egg business. He will not be able to feed them indefinitely .
I can't imagine a coop in Texas with no windows...how do you ventilate?

Until what?
Molting birds might not lay again until after solstice.

Ah, so they should have enough light.

Balancing feed and production for profit is tricky....usually takes huge quantities of birds, intense manipulation of environment, and regular culling.
Hard business to make money on.

Well, it looks like the eggs are slowly coming back. We added oyster shell and a portion of 20% chick feed, nonmedicated. The hens are now turned out every day. I did separate the flock to keep this year's pullets in a chicken tractor while they come into lay. They are better protected, have sunshine, and higher protein to bring them in.
