A lame Easter Egger with Bumblefoot led me to check all my chickens tonight -- 5 more have it (1 with a big one, the others just starting). What's going on? Is it because it was a pretty wet year and due to construction, we had lots of mud instead of grass? I'm trying not to freak out! ;-) I have the 2 worst cases in dog crates in my mud room...

They root on a flat 2x4 since it's so cold here in NH. They hop down onto a poop board covered with PDZ. Their coop is full of pine shavings and they free-range all day.

Something is cutting the bottoms of their feet. That's how bumblefoot starts. An injury to the foot pad, bacteria enters and a staph infection ensues.

With construction going on do you have a lot of rocks someplace where the chickens may be? That seemed to be the cause of the bumblefoot issue I had.
I put about a 12” band of 3/4” stone all the way around my barn to assist with drainage. In doing so they repeatedly had to step on the stones which I believe was cutting the bottom of their feet.
Good luck. Don’t freak out I have treated bumblefoot and I have also left it alone both with success. I would say keep an eye on it and find the cause.
