Flooded Run help???

Check out the "fixing a muddy run" link in my .sig below -- the first part of that page is about things you can do to encourage your run not *to* flood, the last part has some things you can do once flooding has occurred.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

I am about to build my coop. Would it be a good idea to put it on high ground and have it sheltered with concrete poured walls around the bottom. Thank you for the feed back on this.

That would be a great idea with the concrete....LOL...there is NO high ground in my yard right now...it is all under water anywhere from 1-3 inches.

Update, it is still raining 2 more inches today.....but i opened the garage today and used some cattle panel to block off some areas and the chickens have been hanging in the garage out of the water. I moved their water, food, set up a roosting poll, and a boc with shaving to lay in....of course they ventured out in the rain to the dog house to lay their eggs....poor grls are going to be so confused after this...thanks for all the help i am going to go buy some sand today. my hubby and i had talked about that yesturday.

Since the top is covered you can dig a drainage ditch around the run to divert the water away from the coop/run. But dont dig it too close so that it is easier for predators to dig under. If you dont like the ditch, you can lay down some drainage tile under the run and around the coop to divert water away. Unfortunatly this wont help you right now. more for you next floods.
