Floor of Run: Hardware cloth & Predators

Coop arrived today, looks like it belonged there all along. Under the coop, no hardware cloth (but it IS in the run). Ah well, I will rectify myself, no big deal. Then because ground not quite level, I plan to level it by putting down about 10-12 cubic feet of topsoil so that I can walk on the floor.

Any thoughts? The coop/run is level, but the ground under it slopes about two inches from side to side. Meaning the coop run is supported by bricks on the low end. Hope that makes sense.

Pea gravel might be nice for drainage and would likely fit through the holes of the hardware cloth. Top soil would be fine though. Sand is another option. If you didn't want to walk on it yourself right away, you could put compostable materials in the run (leaves, grass clippings, etc.) and the chickens would break them down for you to fit through the holes. Lots of options.
