Floor of run

What should I use for the floor of my run? It was a garden bed before so kinda muddy.

4-5" of Sand, it dries quick, and had good drainage.

I bought a coarse sand/pea gravel mixture from a landscape/mulch company - MUCH cheaper than buying by the bag...probably $12-15 a ton if you have access to a pick-up truck. Playground sand would work though...many use it.

Are you putting a roof on it? I live near Seattle and we actually extended our roofline in November. Even with sand, I wonder if you will have challenges with puddling. My girls really like being able to find supper dry dirt to dust bathe in. From what I have read on BYC, the wet soil is more likely to grow mites and other insects too.
