We did use 1" chick wire on the front of the hen house over the window, then I shingled it. Not as easy to pull the wire apart to get in the window.
Usually if you watch your building, take a walk around, put dried sterilized blood around it, this helps keep skunks and not always racoons. Not enough to not secure your hen house tho!
