My fiance and I have had our big girls for about a year now and we've changed coups twice since we got them - we never put flooring down because they stay in the coup while we are at work and we let them out when we get home. In the beginning we put down hay but it never got flattened out and the more we put in the higher it built up - it just got kicked around by the girls into big piles and really wasn't very useful in there, so we stopped. I feel that since my girls like to dig for bugs so much it would upset them to put down wood flooring. What are other people's opinions on this? I understand the safety part of the wood floor, but we have taken other measures to insure nothing can get in. When we got our new coop, the girls loved all the grass that was on the ground (for the first two weeks before it all got eaten/kicked up). They now dig and dust bathe in the dirt floor. I couldn't imagine having it any other way. Thoughts?
