Hello! I am new to chicken ownership, and have been investigating flooring options for my chicken run. I am using the DLM for inside the coop, but not sure if that's best for run. The mud is obviously not going to work for anyone (esp chickens). Has anyone tried ground rubber mulch in the run? I read a lot of threads from folks in the UK using that. Easy to hose down, drains well, doesn't breed e-coli or other bacteria, etc. Just not sure. We are in Illinois, and we seem to get a lot of rain lately. Will rubber mulch work?

I don't know. There is a risk that the chickens eat it. As in ground rubber mulch... do you mean ground up, or that it sits on the ground? I've never heard of it, so I don't know.

If you are seriously interested, take a peek at horse and dairy cattle flooring. Of course, if it says 'horse,' it automatically makes it $10 more.

It is the ground rubber that they use on playgrounds. Not really finely ground, so I'm not sure they could eat it. I mean ground up. but also spread out on the ground.

I would avoid the rubber mulch, and go with DL in the run too.
Not a fan of DL in the coop, unless your coop is on the ground,
doesn't work well with a floored coop.
