I have 2 hens about 5 - 5 1/2 months old that have floppy combs. One has black tips. They are laying, eating, drinking and stampeding across the yard for treats. Originally I thought it was the awful heat, but it is now in the mid 80's for highs (lows in the 60s, so not really cold either). I looked them over and didn't see any mites, haven't noticed any poop problems (but with 16 chickens, who knows?) Any thoughts?

Oh, I am so curious on the answer to this. A lot of my pullets have the same problem, though the black has started to fade the older the get and the more they lay, but the flop over gets me... I can't answer, but I am in the same boat.

Six of my nine hens (Production Reds and Barred Rocks) have combs that "flop". In several cases, when the comb got long enough to flop, they started laying within a week or two of the flop !!!

Here is my RIR/Americana Cross Ro. He has a floppy pea comb, which is quite odd. His mom has a really long and floppy comb like the previous post.

alrighty then!! Good to know! ( I have people wanting to buy eggs and I figured that would be "perfect timing" for the hens to get sick! Yep - that's my luck)

(good to see ya Dawg... hope all is well)
