My son raises English lops They are the extreme in the lop earred bunny world to even be showable they must have 21 inch ears from tip to tip. Most are longer then that....
They are the most social of the rabbit world and love to hang out with people.
The care is for the most part the same as other rabbits but in the winter they need water bottles due to if they drag there ears in the water they will freeze and that is not a pretty sight.

Beautiful English lops!

I rescued a French Lop over the summer from an auction. It turns out she is a pretty decent show rabbit and was probably bred before I got her. I showed her over the summer and the judges just couldn't stop talking about how beautiful she was. Apparently they are hard to come by in my area, and I got her for $15!

She's gotten very sweet. My mom absolutely loves her and takes care of her while I am away at college. She's difficult to hold because she is so big, but when I can get her out of the cage she will walk on a leash and likes to be held.

Here is a picture of her. Her name is Maya. I do have to clean her underside a lot though, as she is quite a messy rabbit! I change her shavings and she kicks them all out and just makes a mess LOL.

Please, please, PLEASE anyone who's interested in having a pet rabbit, check with your local humane society and/or animal rescue! MANY rabbits end up in a rescue situation for one reason or another (usually because people either get tired of them when they outgrow the "cute baby bunny" stage, or because they didn't do their homework and know what to expect when they bought one on impulse at the cute little Easter display...). Think about giving a shelter animal a second chance at a decent life, knowing it's loved!

Thank you, I went to perfinder.com already, the nearest one I could find that has rabbits is over 2 hours away and they are asking a lot for them, I have rescued many dogs and cats, I love giving animals a home, but it's just too far for me to go right now. Thank you!

Sometimes, it just depends on where you live. We seem to have a long drive for everything!

One thing I wanted to mention about the cost of an adopted rabbit, is that they are often already spayed or neutered. They all are, where I live. Here, it's actually cheaper to adopt an already altered rabbit than it is to have a free rabbit altered. If you just want a pet, this is a great idea, as they do make better pets if they are spayed or neutered.

I'm not against responsible breeding, I just wanted to add some additional information for any of the people lurking on this thread, looking at these adorable pictures and thinking about getting one. Wow, you all have some really wonderful rabbits!

For anyone in Pennsylvania (or surrounding states) I reccomend the vet clinic just up the MT from me. YES People drive all the way from MD just to go to this vets office and I see why! Ebensburgh Veterinary Hospital (i call it a clinic not sure why ha ha)!

Anywhoo...CHEAP rates,a nd they specialize in rabbit care and other exotics you can't say that of all veterinary clinics/hospitals. If you have a bunnie you want altered, PLEASE contact them and see when you can get fit in (they are always full because of thier very cheap rates). I think it's like $50 that's it to alter a rabbit there. That's cheap...as i've heard some places charge in the $100s for it!

I got my 24lb female Golden retriever mix spayed there for $60

When my golden retriever mix wasa pup and broke her hind leg, it only cost $60 for EVERYTHING....xrays were like $20, and the annastesia, overnight stay and splint was the rest. I expected it to be in the $100's again.


So just praising about this place for anyone who'd be willing to get their bunnies altered and are in PA or are near by....this is a clinic you dont want to miss out on....not many people know about them because they're such a small establishment but i reccomend them to everyone. Got my one cat spayed there as well i think she was $40.

Oh and by the way...my puppy, was expected to limp the rest of her life from her injury....she doesnt....its' hard to tell anything ever even happened to her. ANd my female cat that got spayed there, her stitches were put in so well, that i won't get another animal altered anywhere but here!
