and Happy Thanksgiving for the frozen Panhandle!

Here's wishing you all a happy thanksgiving. Question, how do you keep a Dutch bantam hen warm during these temperature changes? My littlest bird was quite cold this morning when I went outside to set them free. She was the only one to show signs that she was bothered by the 45 degree temperature. She was moving very slowly and her feathers were puffed. My home faces north and south and the coop is on the northwest side. What do I do? I brought her on to the patio and put the heat lamp on to raise the temperature for her.

Perhaps when the temp drops you will have to put her in a pen with a heat lam, of you can put a small elect. heater in the coop set just enough to keep the temp warm enough to keep her from being cold. you sure don't want her getting sick

I have seramas that handle freezing temps well. I would be concerned that it may be more than cold temps bothering her. I am in North Florida.

I think the issue is my opening to the interior of
the coop. It is way too large and my hubby hasn't made the door yet. The perches are right there in the doorway. The wind from the north was not blocked by anything. She is fine but I will continue to bring her in at night.

I have an A frame coop. the nesting boxes are covered by roof, but the perches and sides only have chicken wire. My hubby fit a tarp over the a-frame to keep the winds out and everybody did great. Maybe you could put a tarp over the exposed area. If it is the entry, you could cover after they are roosting and uncover each am. It would be a temporary measure, and you would only need to do it when the temps drop.
