FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

You are lucky. I live in Central Florida and have lost 4 young chickens so far to hawks. I know I have sharp shinned and coopers around here.

So beautiful, but so deadly.
Good luck with your girl, sounds like she will recover with your care.

Hi! I'm in Florida, near Ocala. We are looking for S.Q/S.P/B.Q/ buff/red laced polish if anyone local has any? We love our chickens to bits!

My Dutch bantam hen laid an egg once we arrived home from vet. She even began to eat. Now I need to observe her drinking to feel she is on her way to recovering from the hawk attack. I am going to make her a sun room chicken meaning she is officially living in the house. I will have to buy a parrot cage and make some modifications to accommodate her. Then she will need a couple of friends. Just updating the outcome.

Awww. What a little trooper she is!

I'm back with an update regarding bobcat attacks. 2 days ago I lost 9 chickens in their pen. The culprits were a bobcat and kits. One chicken eaten, The rest just killed and left whole. Looks like kitten fun.
I reinforced the gate where the got in. Next am. still 3 chickens, but scared. This morning only 2 chickens left, one just disappeared. Saw big cat prints, no kitten prints. Tried to find where it entered. It seems to have come in through the top even though it is completely covered in shade cloth. It found a gap - in and out. The shade cloth was not meant to keep out bobcats, but hawks and owls. Who knew??
I feel I'm outsmarted at every turn and my poor feathery friends are paying the price with their lives and well being.
I have a couple of people coming out to see about hunting this group. I hate to do it, but they are now trained to be chicken, goose, duck killers and won't want to hunt more difficult natural prey. I have the survivors in a different pen, but it won't take them long to figure a way in there too since it is built in a similar way. My electric charger will not be here before Thursday.
I'm angry and discouraged and heartsick! I get up at night whenever I hear a sound from the pasture. Besides not sleeping well DH and I have bronchitis and are both miserable. When it rains, it pours!

Very sorry for your losses. I feel your pain. Had an entire flock of ducks (3 adults 11 ducklings) killed by a neighbor dog. Then I ordered another 10 ducklings from a preservation farm and had hawks circling. Luckily didn't get any, we are new to the area so we are just getting ready to build our enclosures. We are doing 2x4 welded wire and 2x4s for the enclosures. The bottom will be reinforced with 1/2 inch wire so ducklings can't get out. And an electric fence will cover it all. Hope it keeps predators out!
