FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Yeah Florida is weird on animal laws, if a dog attacks a dog or cat it is "dangerous" but if it attacks horses, goats, chickens etc it is not dangerous. Personally I feel if a dog attacks anything that isnt a threat to itself or the owner it is dangerous

Depends on the dog breed. I have Siberian huskies. They are the sweetest dogs, great with my 17 month old daughter, great with our mini dachshund, great with my nieces and nephews, great with all other dogs.

They are high prey drive animals, they will kill anything that moves. They've never killed a cat but I know they would if one got in their path,

They have killed and eaten ducks, squirrels, rabbits, turtles, mice.....and the other day my male was eating a black racer.

You have to understand the breed to understand whether its actual aggression or prey drive, there is a HUGE difference, that's why all animal laws suck. They generalize.

I agree. The dogs that attacked the pony, Tom, were also pits that were chained to trees all their lives and not loved by their owner. I have a doberman puppy that just turned a year old. She is the most loving dog I have ever owned, she comes to work with me every day and gets tons of loving from all of my customers and employees.  My uncle had 2 dobermans that were vicious, I guess it is all in how the animals are raised.

I hate people that think its ok to do that. I have a pit bull as well. He's not animal reactive for the most part. We've just recently moved to Florida so I now have ducks, chickens and quail. I've been using my pit to protect them, we have so many neighborhood dogs, and a cat, I know the cat killed several of my quail.

My pit hasn't ever been around waterfowl or poultry so it's been a process teaching him. He's learning though, and he definitely keeps the other loose neighbor dogs away.

I had one that I found rescue for. He was a hunting pit. If we didn't have so many dogs already I would've kept him. I'd take my daughter for a walk in her stroller and he would walk in front of us, and he'd run out into the bushes and chase rabbits out in front of me. Really smart dog. We are butted up to 400++ acres of hunting land so I think he got lost and was probably a hog dog. I got him rescue after about a month of him hanging right outside our front door.

We have 3 dogs, 2 are yard dogs that protect our building and property, and the other is a house dog. One of the yard dogs is a black lab, and the other is a lab shepherd mix, our house dog is a doberman. One of the yard dogs is always killing a cat, rats, or bird, even a duck that wandered up from some where, I just can't figure out which one. It is shocking to me that they're able to catch the animals, they're both old dogs and never want to move much for anything else! I will say that both of the yard dogs are lovable and friendly to people. One of them has that prey drive that you mentioned. I am going to introduce my doberman to the chickens, watching very closely of course. She found an injured bird a few weeks ago, never tried to hurt it, I just couldn't keep her from trying to lick it!

Haha too cute! My Pittie is odd. He runs around the duck enclosure and likes to make the ducks run from him, but I've also had him loose in my brooder area, and he's gone from tub to tub and looked in at the baby chicks and ducks and hasn't done a thing.

I think he chases them around, because to him it's a game.

My one husky would survive the wilderness if he had to.

In my old yard, we had a huge oak tree in the fenced in area. There was a squirrel in the tree trying to get out. I opened my sliding glass door so my husky could go out, he moved inch by inch, I have never seen him move so slow. He tricked the squirrel into thinking he wasn't moving, squirrel came down the tree, boom! He got the squirrel, ate it head to tail, not one spot of blood anywhere on the ground or him.

I'm in Tampa. Has anyone had problems with red spider mites? If so what did you use?

I use garden sevin dust. I put a mask around my nose and mouth towel around my chickens had have somebody hold the chicken turn them upside down Dust them under the wings around the vent and also put the chest. I do this twice separating by seven days. As always works for me. Make sure the chickens have an area where the contest themselves which helps. The word of caution if you have one clock that has them in the other flocked is not be sure they don't get together in a run or are exposed to each other.
