FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

I'm brand new to this chicken endeavor, and have had my chicks in their outside coop for about a week. They're 5 weeks old. My question is about the filling the feeder. I am feeding them Chick starter … "start and grow" medicated crumbles. My question is this, do you guys dump the dust when refilling the feeder? It seems like they've picked out the bigger crumbles, and often it's "feed DUST" left at the bottom. Should I just keep adding to the top of the feeder, and let the chicks sort it out? Or should I dump the dusty bottom and start with fresh crumbles when filling the feeder? It seemed like there were several cups of "dust feed" left in the bottom this morning. :cd … and feed isn't cheap? Thoughts?

I am building this coop and I have no idea what to ask? A fair price. It's not complete yet and it will be off the ground a foot or two it's 5'x3' with 6 nesting boxes any help is appreciated!!!

That is a nice coop. You have enough nesting boxes for 24 to 30 birds at 4 to 5 birds per nest box.

You may leave it, but dump it after a day or two so it doesn't get old and cause problems. In my experience tho, they rarely eat the "dust".

Thanks for the answer! LOL. I wouldn't want to eat the dust either, but there sure seems to be a lot of it! :D I hate to waste it! maybe I'll dump the dust every other day? If they don't eat it... its wasted whether I dump it or not, right?

It's great if it's only for egg laying. I don't know if I'd want more than 3 chickens in there spending the night. Does it have any windows or ventilation? That's one thing you need in Florida is ventilation . If I had it, it would work out nice for egg laying because all my chickens are in covered pens at night and on some days. The tin roof may make it unbearably hot. It's beautifully made.

It does have ventilation it will be on the back side! Y wouldn't you have them spend the night?

This is my set up. I am new at this but from what I've heard a happy chicken lays lots of eggs I'm getting 4 a day with 4 chickens! My son just loves them. The coop that's in this run is much smaller than the one I am building and they love it! They all roost on the same perch while the other one is empty.
