FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

I've got cheapo plastic feeders I bought at Ace. I've got only 4 birds. The water hasn't been to bad to tend to, but I chose sand for my litter, and the feed crumbles they're flinging out just don't rake up, or sift up. I'm worried about having the feed/organic material rotting in my sand.

Vintage look? Yes! Especially the chamber pots… I googled some images, but they seemed pretty deep and not the right shape for chicken to eat from. Did you get your pans online? Do you really add ice? I did read that the chickens needed cool water to stay cool themselves.

BTW, I see you're from Spring Hill. I used to live there… off Merchant Ave and taught at West Hernando Christian School. I moved to Chiefland in '99 and love it here. Country life is pretty nice!

Ohh... Manatee springs. What a nice place to live..

Wow from Spring Hill?
Yes I do give them ice when it's hot. The chamber pots are a about 5 inches high and 7-8 inches wide. I look for ones with the curvy waist . I used to fill it half way but sometimes I fill above the waist and it's fine. I must have 6 potties going right now.

With my 2 demises and 2 symptomatic hens with one diagnosed with Aspergillosis, I have moved all my chickens into pens and no coops. The poop on the ground that's pretty sandy and I rake it out. Who needs a coop in Florida, LOL. The hens can lay in a dog house or something like that.

I'm not sure where Merchant ave. is, but I live a mile south of spring hill regional hospital.

SeminoleWind, I meant to say Northcliffe. Merchant iis off of Northcliffe (between mariner and hwy19). My chickens are still so young. I don't have them in a run yet, but so far the coop seems to be ok. It's only in the sun a few hours per day… I may have to wait until they're a bit older to try the chamber potty for a feede due to their size. Do yu think bantams will be tall enough to eat from a chamber pot?

Northcliffe I know. I think you can now have chickens in spring hill, 3, with a permit.
I don't know if bantams would do well with that. My silkie female, who is a smaller hen, is fine with it, but it's hard for her if it's near empty. I would think that if a bantam was at least 5 inches tall from foot to the base of the neck, it shouldn't be a problem.

I live on the Pasco county side of Spring Hill, FL on a little more than an acre and zoned AR (agricultural). I just recently purchased this property just so I could have chickens without needing a permit or jumping through hoops to have a few fresh eggs daily. Great way to get the grandkids back to planting a garden, raising chickens, joining 4H, and getting them out from in front of the TV and video games. Well....there is still the Wii FIt....LOL

Hi my name is Mike and I live in Oldsmar,Fl. I just signed up today but have been learning on this site for about a month now. When I was younger we had chickens until the city banned "livestock". They have now eased there stance on chickens so I am going to be building a coop soon and purchasing some hens. So far I have to say this is an awesome site full of info. I love the coops section and i now know what I want to build.Anyway I'm on my lunch break but thought I would introduce myself at least to the other Floridians.

Welcome! I used to live in Bayport, off of Hillsborough Ave on the way to Oldsmar.
