welcome, south tampa hereHi there! Thanks for getting us Floridians together to celebrate our birds! Excited to meet others and to maybe meet and greet at chicken related events!
Hey folks. It seems there's a consensus on the forums (but not 100%) that you should NOT feed roosters/cockerels layer feed. I had a hen, new to layin,g lay a soft egg this morning. They are not eating the oyster shells so I assume that they think they don't need more calcium but i'm buying a new bag of feed today and don't want to harm my roo or mal-nourish my hens. Should I get layer and not be concerned about my roo or get normal feed and just continue to offer the shellss; chalk up the soft egg to deformed egg/problem that just happens?

Auto correct helps but doesn't catch all words, (wood, would, brake, break, to, too etc. and many chicken breeds such as Orpingtons too)
CMOM,
It's only been ONE egg and it was her 3rd egg layed. Not real concerned about the one egg thing. I was more questioning hi protein laying feed having a roo in the mix vs standard chicken feed and free for all oyster shell.
You're answer was great (as usual). thx
