FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

I can only have 5 hens and I have 7 right now. I got her originally when I thought my other BR was a boy but consensus is he is really a she. I knew I'd have to give up one. I'm just hoping I don't have to choose another down the line.
It never fails, if you want a she.... you get a he and vice versa!

Love legends of the guardians too. We named ours after "princesses". Merida, Gwenivere, Calliope..then there's Nugget. Yes, we named one of our hens nugget...lol When my daughter was 6, 20something years ago, we raised chickens for Tyson. When the day old chicks would come, my daughter thought that's where chicken nuggets came from.

At the moment we are 99% sure we have 7 hens but Started with 11. My EEs love to make a crow noise when they get on the roost -- so much for picking quiet breeds. Anywhoo, I have to get rid of one for sure so I'm picking the one I'm least attached to which is my 9 week BR

So my Jack Russell and my Beagle apparently turnned and decided on chicken nuggets for dinner last night. They were soo sweet around the coop while we were home, we didn't think of anything bad happening. But we left for dinner and came back to a very muddy and chewed up coop. Damage yes, chicken injury no!

The dogs have promptly received correction and the run plans and install were moved up to today, coop repair to be done also. Base of run will be a 3 foot wooden fence with burried cement blocks all long the edges. Will have to install the roof system later and just keep the girls in their coop til we can be outside with them for outdoor playtime.

Will be putting the girls back in the brooder box while getting supplies.

Will post pics of the progress and finished product.

Here's the damage after we got the mud off.

Happy girls this AM.

My Jack Russell was pretty crazy in her younger days. Question and do not take offense - do you think you may have mice? My Tinkerbell would tear anything apart trying to get to them.

New Chicken mom here, I'd really like to find out how other Floridians help their girls beat the heat? TIA

Another idea I just got from a friend. Her husband took a large cooler. Cut a hole in the top and using PVC pipe created a vent. Load the cooler with gallon jugs of frozen water. Using fan, blow it over the top of the PVC pipe and instant air conditioning. I am going to try to do this for my horses when they hide in the barn and my chickens. The ice in the gallon jugs will melt, throw them back in freezer - have to have enough freezer room - and be ready for the next day.

Oh boy! I just watched One of my girls eat a massive wolf spider! As gross as it was, I was happy but I actually love the spiders around here. They take care of business!
My dom girl Rawr did that last week!!! wasn't sure if it was the poisonous ones so i freaked as she grabbed it but have you seen The avengers movie? That moment when The Hulk smashed Loki into the ground?.. That was exactly what she did. after they ate it i scooped her up to make sure it didn't bite her! Chickens are beast!

We've had a rat or two on occasion over the years due to vacant forclosed homes nearby. All of which died a quick death and were brought to my feet as lifeless treasures from the Jack Russell. But no sign of mice or rats so far. Just doggie desires for chicken nuggets. Things have eased since the fence was installed on Sunday, but the beagle and jack russel are chomping at the bit whenever I open the gate to get in and out of the run.
