FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

I hope we don't flood, I don't swim too well either. There is a lake down at the bottom of the hill. It is spring fed and there are areas for swimming but I would be more worried about being gator food.

Oh, my. so sorry you are getting so much rain. I think water damage is so much worse to deal with than anything. Hope it does not get any worse.

Spent some time in West Virginia last spring/summer. Lots of clay in the soil and we had some big rains in a short time. Made the mud slippery as all get out. I was scared to death of falling and his whole run leaked. Everyone was a mess. Then, of course, when it finally dried out it was like bricks and he had to go in a rototill the run.

The rain is making everything a mess. I don't mind it raining but not for several days of it. It's been like a light mist when it's not raining. I let birds out into the pasture today. At least it's not hot and they are actually coming out of their pen. On hot days the birds would rather stay in their pens and get under the shade trees in them.

We are with you, Cmom. Rain plus 90% humidity with little sunlight allows bad bugs to flourish. We will add 1" of pine shavings to the coop to try to stave off the worst of everything. Since the flock free ranges all day, they are starving unless we provide more food to supplement their "no forage in the rain" policy.

It's so nice to find others down here with chickens! Somehow everyone seems to forget that all good grows somewhere. We found a house to rent in Redland that is great. I finally have space to do the things I want. I had to resort to experimenting growing cotton in pots on a 5th floor balcony when I was a kid. Do you have any pictures of your coop?

I discovered I have a leak in one of the coops roof. It is a muddy mess particularly were the leak is. When the rain stops I'll open up everything put some fans in and dry it out good, clean it and repair the roof. I needed this like a hole in the head.

I cleaned out the coop in between rain bands. Put some fresh litter down but not in the leaky spot. Now when the rain stops and the coop drys out I'll try to fix the leaky spot. I recently was up on all of the roofs because some of the roofing was loose because of some big wind we got awhile back. I nailed it back down and put some sealer over the spots I nailed and a couple of cracks in the roofing and it has been ok until the past few days with the more steady days of rain. Maybe I missed a place where I nailed it but I was pretty sure I sealed all of the spots but there is a leak so I must find it.

So on account of all this rain we been having lately, all the ditches, easements, parts of the property, sides of ad/or corners of the roads, and so on and on...are all swamped. LOTS of standing water everywhere. So lots of mosquito breeding possibles. Pet store stop last night for feeder fish and pop those babies into the kiddie pool so they can munch on larvae then I netted some of them tadpoles that are swimming around in there and tossed them into this puddle, that puddle, everywhere a puddle puddle. This morning, chickens had a treat of 2 of them feeders that looked a little peaked last night and turned "floaters" over night. What a fuss they made chasing each other around for those 2 tiny morsels...such a fuss over so little...tsk. Silly chickens.
