FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

hey guys.. got a question for those of you that buy shipped eggs. I received some eggs today from Tennessee. They were shipped on Tuesday. There were 18 eggs and they were all individually wrapped in bubble wrap and then in a large plastic ice cream container, surrounded by newspaper and then in a large box. When I opened the ice cream container I could smell that something was off. Right away I noticed that an apparently rotten egg had been placed in the container and it was oozing black/green stuff all over. The smell was awful. This had to be a very old egg to be rotting right?! I have not had this happen before. How should I delicately put it to the seller that I expect them to replace the whole batch since rotten egg funk got all over everything?! IMHO this is the seller's fault for putting in an old egg and has nothing to do with the PO mishandling.. right?

Take a photo of how it arrived and send it to the seller. How many days were they in transit? If 2-3 then yes that was a verymold egg. If longer, it couldmhave gone bad while traveling, but I doubt would have been that far along. Most sellers would make right with lost eggs in that situation.

This time of the year is very hard on egg in shipping (as if shipping wasn't rough enough) with the extreme heat they sit in.

I'm sure it was an accident. Maybe he missed it in gathering for several days.. I don't know... I'm trying to be positive. I can't imagine it was intentional. I am emailing him we will see what he says.

You described that egg way tOO carefully. Use your descriptive words! That's DISGUSTING! I hope they are apologetic & at least replace it! This is the hottest time of the year, who knows!? Maybe they washed them & that threw-off the good bacteria & caused bad bacteria or mold to grow.

HAHAHA.. yeah I guess I am nice that way. The eggs were NOT washed but I think even if they were a fresh egg could not have gotten that bad in a matter of 2 days

Sellers reply (with name removed to protect them) and my reply

Thank you for replacing them. Yes I am sure the heat doesn't help but this was certainly a bad egg. Two days in transit couldn't have been that hard on it. Please just let me know when the replacements are on the way so I can have the incubator sterilized. You may find they transport better if you don't place them in the plastic container as well. When they are packed tight in there, even with the bubble wrap, they have a tendency to jar into each other which can cause trauma. I've received all kinds of eggs and those that survive with the least problems are individually wrapped in bubble wrap then placed randomly in pine shavings, packing peanuts or shredded paper that fill the box. That way they do have some room to move if they need to without getting hurt

Those fillers also absorb the shock well from PO mishandling.

Thanks again for the replacements. Maybe some of the other breeds will be more cooperative this time too. LOL
