How exciting!! Good luck with them. I'm wanting some myself.
I have 1 French Black Copper Maran, 3 silkies (1 is a sizzle), 7 blue and blue/white polish, 1 cochin x rock, 2 RIR x PR, and 1 RIR chicks.... probably bring them to the swap on the 20th if they're still here.

The silkies are tempting! I've got logistics issues though in some part due to the JG/EEs! Broody #1 hatched her chicks Friday, broody two has split her eggs with broody three while we wait for the raffle eggs to get here. And I've got an IOU for FBCM's for the next broody-go-round. This is not the time for silkie chicks. However.....I do have two silkie roos that need a new home if anyone traveling wants to swing by and pick them up!

I posted a few weeks ago that the St.Pete City Council would be voting on the chicken law tomorrow at 3pm, but unfortunately they are apparently not going to get to that topic. I will let you know when they do decide to vote on it. Please pass this around! I would hate for anyone to show up tomorrow.

Where you goin, Jody?

Please add me to your Florida List of backyard chicken owners. I live in Tallahassee, FL and have 8 hens.

As an aside, I may be looking for a second coop and a docile, possibly disabled bird to be a companion to a disabled hen that I have so if anyone nearby needs to re-home a bird or coop, please message me : )

Saw it on TV and I think its great. Its a trial.TV said they would pick 25 applicants to try allowing "City chickens" they would only be allowed 3 hens per household.BUT the great thing is they have to attend some sort of class on how to raise chickens first. To me that's the best part.Melbourne allows 6 hens and I thought that was great...until my neighbors got chickens.First of all they didn't get the pet permit required to own chickens here in Melbourne-but hey who cares. He bought 6, 2 month old chicks,he was keeping them in a cat carrier.I had to listen to them cry all day and all night. Please keep in mind I spent from 2000-2010 running my own hobby farm, raising chickens.I am not an expert but I have A LOT of knowledge.Babies don't cry if they are happy! The poor babies were in a carrier with a bowl of water and food thrown on the floor, its was a gross mud pit.I finally loaned him a hardware cloth cage more suitable than a cat carrier.I tried to talk to him without being a pushy b@#ch.That was over a month ago now.He is still building his coop, maybe works on it once a week.He used chicken wire that was so large his chicks walk right through it.He has a bantam that will be 6 months old before its big enough not to escape.I wont even get into the fact the coop is honestly 8 feet tall.Hes building the nesting boxes towards the top.He has owned chickens before...Oh it was his dad who raised chickens.Every time I go over the chicks are ravenous,I take them scratch, you know as a treat from a nice neighbor. For protection he throws a piece of plywood over my hardware cloth cage. The poor babies get soaked. Its very hard for me.I can make suggestions but there is only so much I can say,I am his neighbor and we have to get along. Its driving me nuts!!!
I think a class is a great idea! I didn't know owning chickens could be so hard!
