24 to 36 hours past when the last chick has hatched on its own is a good time frame for checking eggs who havent hatched. Candling in a dark room is best so you arent cracking open an egg who is just slow to the hatch party. Opening the bator during hatch to remove babies can often shrink wrap those left and can end up killing them. Leave everyone in the bator until they are all hatched. Chicks DONT need food the first 72 hours of life (is why you see hatcheries shipping day old chicks) at 36 hours old we like to remove them quickly (we use cabinets that dont loose temp or humidity when we do this).



We have a select few white sebastopol goslings available to be picked up this weekend on Saturday. we are driving to Ocala on Sunday to deliver some chickens and ducks and willing to bring goslings with us as well for anyone in the area.

Well I have learned a lot in this hatching. 11 out of 31 hatched 6 where dead in the shell no peep hole 2 had peep but could not get OT and passed and 12 where still yoke. I have others hopefully hatching on the 26th .
Three days ago I took out the center turner racks and placed the eggs on the wire so they would not turn but the others would still turn. I was opening the incubator after each chick hatched to remove the shell and check them so now I see what happens if you do that .Shrink wrap and that stinks.
Well I have learned a lot to bad at the cost of some chicks life's . I hope the others are still ok and next time the eggs go in at the same time.
I think I got three blue marans one black and seven whetens

ours go into lock-down tonight at midnight.
We're not hopeful because the candling hasn't shown us much in those dark brown eggs.

What was your humidity during incubation? It sounds like it may have been too high with that many not pipping internally. I went through that a lot until I finally started dry hatching at 20% and I have had a couple of 100% hatches since then (with shipped eggs).

Also, I actually remove hatched chicks from the bator (I do this because I don't like them staying in there too long and making a mess inside, also the chick fluff clogs up the motor). I just use a wet paper towel or a spray bottle to up the humidity while I'm opening and just shortly after, and I only open for a second. You only have to worry about shrink wrapping if you open if for a prolonged period of time and don't do anything to compensate for the loss of humidity. Also, if your humidity during the early stages of incubation has been too high, the chicks will have a lot of extra fluid and goo around them, which can turn into shellack once they pip and cause them to be stuck. Had a lot of those too when I was addicted to humidity

Don't worry about the ones that didn't hatch, you did a fine job and have a bunch of happy little babies there, congrats!!

Each hatch is an education. I am also wondering what your humidity was during incubation and during lockdown. What kind of incubator are you using? I hatch in different incubators than I incubate in. I have some incubators that are dedicated as hatchers. I do staggered hatches so that is why I have some incubators dedicated as hatchers. Cold and hot weather can also affect the fertility. I candled some eggs a couple of days ago from some new girls and a new boy. Not one turned out fertile.

I switched my boys around as they are from the same original line I'm breeding. I have a hatch on Tuesday then more eggs will go into the incubator then the following week I will have another hatch. Because our weather has been hot and cold not sure how my hatches are going to turn out. Good luck on yours.

Not sure of what show you are referring to. The Inverness show on Saturday, the judging starts at 9:00am.
