FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Hi everyone. I am in Umatilla. I have 3 Barred Rocks ...who ROCK. They are young still, so they aren't laying yet. Hoping to add some more varieties to our family soon (frizzles, silkies, and especially Mille Fleurs)... yep, it's a chicken addiction.

Welcome from North East Florida. I can almost guarantee that you will get more ..........and more ............and more Chickens lol

hope everyone stays dry while doing chores today

lots of new to chickens FL peeps, welcome to chicken match. lol

a few things as new chicken owners most dont know:

frizzle is a feather condition not a breed and can be found in a few breeds

silkies are cute, soft, look aweful when it rains (lol) and lay tiny little eggs

Mille Fluer is a color pattern not a breed and is found on a few breeds of chicken

Ameraucana ( NO 'i") will never be found at a feed store for purchase, they dont have green legs.

What feed stores sell are Easter Eggers

Easter Eggers are NOT Ameraucana and can lay brown, green, olive, blue eggs

Bantam chickens need more predator protection as hawks will take them even as fully growth adults

Chickens DONT need heat

Florida chickens need lots of shade, and open air coops are more common here

Hi I'm in middleburg Florida and new to raising chickens.Glad I found this site, such great info!! I always wanted chickens but didn't take the plunge until this year.Building a coop as we speak and have nine chicks already.Of course not all are going to be mine. Some are for a friend in Macclenny who lost some of her hens last year. She doesn't have a brooder set up so I'm going to raise them off for her.I have 2 barred rocks a buff orph and a few little red hens Lol! The red ones were from tractor supply and did not specify what breed just gave a list of possible breeds and that they were egg laying reds of some type.
Welcome neighbor! I got my coop and chickens Thanksgiving weekend and our family is so glad we did.
