A while back, hatched for a friend.

I have experimented a lot and eventually built and rebuilt my hatcher out of an old styrofoam cooler a friend gave me. We eventually put a wafer thermostat that came out of my cabinet incubator, in the cooler and we put an electronic thermostat in the cabinet incubator. They works wonderful. I also us my Hova-Bators and Little Giant styrofoam incubators as hatchers. I have hatched in my cabinet incubator but I prefer not to.

Oh boy. I would love to have that setup, LOL. So far I just have one bator, and a bigger one enroute that I just bought. This is all slowly growing into a huge addiction. Ha.

I wonder why I would lose them after pipping like that. To make it all 21 days and then quitting - I dunno.
i think it might be my Incubator,  The manufacturer  says you can open the door for oxygen to be let in even during lock-down, but I'm not so sure.  I won't do it on my next go round and I'll feed air in through an aquarium pump

I had the same problem. I put 25 into lockdown all moving and good but only 10 hatched. Humidity was at 55 to 65 and temperature was at 100. The only thing that I can think is that some hatched at day 19 and I took them out on day 20.

What is the temperature and humidity for incubation (the first 18 days)? What is the temperature and humidity during lockdown ( the last 3 days)? If you are using a styrofoam incubator, there are small holes in the lid and the bottom of the incubator, which in my opinion is adequate for air circulation especially if you have a fan (circulated air) in your incubator. I use the plugs in the holes on top to adjust the temperature and humidity by opening one or both, or closing one hole or both holes. I have even used tape to close off the hole either partially or totally. Usually chicks don't hatch

It's so easy to get addicted to this. I am afraid of what my husband have to say. So I ordered some Cornish X. So I can make him like my hobby when I feed him some. Lol

I have been looking after some chicks for a friend while she deals with banks and moving house... Needless to say banks don't move at the speed of light so these chicks have grown into big birds while we were waiting (i think they are around 4 months now), so she has asked me to sell the two roos..

they are VERY nice, one is a big splash marans and the other is a swedish flower hen..

If anyone is interested make us a reasonable offer.. sorry about no pics, i will try to post some if anyone is interested in the birds.

PS: pickup would be local only..

Welcome to the Florida forum! Nice people on this site you will enjoy. What do you raise? We are in Okeechobee where tonight and tomorrow night it is suppose to freeze!! Florida, always a challenge.

Has anyone been to the Bent Creek Swap in Jacksonville before? I was just wondering if there were usually many vendors there. I wanted to check it out this weekend, but not sure if it will be worth in in January. Thanks for any input!

I have been, it's really tiny, I would only recommend going if you have already pre-arranged meeting someone. That is what most people do, unless you are close and it doesn't hurt you to go. I am 3 hours away, and if I hadn't arranged to buy ducks ahead of time, it wouldn't have been worth the drive. There wasn't anything else I was interested in and most stuff was pre-sold.

(By the way I'm totally not bashing it, if I were local I would probably be at every meet) :)
