FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

We moved here (Putnam county) in August of last year. I grew up in KS and moved to Key West in 2010...now that was pretty nice! Sometimes it was chilly but not like what I'd grown up with. I acclimated to those tropical temps quickly and now am freezing again. We moved up north here to be able to afford a house with a bit of land so we could have a small farm. Talking about the beach earlier made me recollect a comic I posted some time back: Lucky chickens!
I live in East Palatka (Putnam country) off 207A by the river. Moved here seven years ago, wanted to start a dog rescue but when the mortgage market collapsed the property I bought was not right for that, plus I rescued a dog that hated other dogs. LoL Back to my coffee now.

Nice to meet you mrbigschickens! We make it over to Palatka about once a month to stop in at Publix and the Putnam Feed store. Do you still have any dogs? I just finished up my 2nd cup of coffee, it was a nice morning for that. We could actually sit on the porch and enjoy it!

Yesterday afternoon was really nice for being outside. I turned the girls out and 'we' worked in our big garden pulling up everything that was killed off by the cold snap. We were out about 3 hours, think I about wore those poor little birds out...most of them wandered back into the run before I was finished up. Bet they slept good last night!

You all have a great day, looks like another decent weather one.

Does anyone know of breeders of Cream Brabanters? I found one lady in Brooksville, FL, Simone, who is gathering some hatching eggs for me. I may want to add another batch later so that I have different roos for the hens that hatch.

Okay, folks, I could use some sources for chicks. I have plans to place an order through MPC, but I can't make the minimum order by myself for the date I need to order and I've had little luck confirming a shared order with anyone else. I have to have my babies in between January and March, because I have to be out of town for a few days in May. I have people who are willing to come let them in and out of a coop and check their feed and water a few times a day, but no one who is able to chick-sit round the clock for littles. If I can't have them here with time to get them into a coop before that trip, then I won't be able to get them until mid-May when the trip is over.

I don't want to name my exact city for privacy reasons, but I'm about an hour south of Tampa and I'm willing to drive as far east as Orlando and as far south as Naples. I'm looking for one female chick from each of four different breeds - one Australorp, one White Leghorn, one Easter Egger, and one Sicilian Buttercup. The breeds were all specifically chosen after weeks of research, so I'd prefer not to deviate if at all possible.

Anybody got any bites? I'd like to reserve the chicks from MPC soonish so they're guaranteed, but if someone has a local source that will reservefemale chicks this far in advance, I'm all ears.
Did you find someone to share an order with you through MPC? Or did you find someone with some chicks available?

I don't know where you live in Florida but if you live where there is a Rural King not far away, they sell hatchery chicks year round. You may be able to go into the store, if there is a store near you, and ask either the manager or his assistants about ordering chicks. We have a monthly swap next to a Rural King. The store is ordering chicks to be available the day of our monthly swap.
