Here are a couple of clubs of the American Racing Pigeon Organization that are the closest to Ocala I could find. There are a couple of fellows that comes to the Dunnellon Tractor Supply Farm Swap that sometimes bring pigeons for sale. I have asked them is they have participated in the racing club and I believe they said they have but I don't know their names, but they may be members of the racing pigeon clubs. Maybe if you contact the club secretaries they may be able to give a local members name and contact information. Just a thought. Good luck...

Thanks, I will follow up on these leads. I appreciate the efforts to help me find what I'm looking for, even if it is a last minute long shot.

I would like to let the Floridians know that there will be a rescue/petting zoo opening soon in Odessa, which is on the Pasco/Hillsburough border off Tarpon spring road. Chickens, geese and lots lots more. I will post when they open. Great day to bring kids and family. I'll post the facebook page tonight. Really nice place.

I'm a newbie, and I'm in west Pasco County (30 miles north of Tampa and a few miles from the Gulf). Nice to meet you!
Welcome! I am in Pasco County, Spring Hill side! Still a newbie of a sort with 11 pullets, 2 roos, 4 guineas and 8 chicks coming in March! Chicken math has taken hold!

Yes, be sure to keep us posted. My granddaughters would love it!

Does this include the Shady Hills area, which is spring hill on the Pasco county side. Big expensive hobby in my neighborhood.

Not sure. On occasion we have had pigeons show up at our place so I take the information off of their leg bands and contact the secretary of the club that is on the band with the information and he or she puts me in touch with the current owners of the birds. The birds are bought and sold all over the country. One bird that showed up at my place was originally from Oklahoma. A fellow in Spring Hill bought him and had taken the bird and released him somewhere around Ocala. I took the Bird to Dunnellon and released it but it beat me back to my place. I then took it to Crystal River and released it.

I am curious.....when these pigeons have been raised and trained to race, what happens to them when you release them into a completely unknown area and they are left to their own abilities to survive? I am sure when they race over long distances, that they know some survival skills but it seems they would also have the expectation of a loving, caring home with a well stocked pantry at some point. I know nothing about pigeons as you can tell. :)
