Would any of you who are near enough to western West Palm Beach want a year-old Buff Orpington hen with a bum leg? Her name is Skippy because she can only hop on one foot, the other one swings along to help her balance. She injured her hock somehow last year and had a big lump of infected matter in it. I did my best to operate on her & try to remove it, but she still will not put any weight on that leg. Otherwise she's alert & healthy, lays a light brown egg a few times a week, eats/drinks/poops just fine.
She was doing well in a pen with a bunch of other hens, no one picked on her and she would hang around the coop during free-range time. I feared she would be certain hawk-bait with her light color & her limp, but she seemed to know enough to stay near the coop or under their shade umbrella. However, the roosters have worn her out. The feathers over her saddle & on the back of the neck are worn away.
Right now I have her in a separate pen away from the other roosters. But she doesn't seem happy there, keeps wanting to hop out & rejoin her flockmates. If I must I will continue to keep her in separate accomodations. But I would rather give her to someone who doesn't keep roosters, or who has a flock of gentle hens that Skippy could join.
We're in the western communities of West Palm Beach, 33412. I would be willing to travel a bit to meet you part-way. Please send me a PM if you'd like to give Skippy a home.
