In the Poultry Tent at the South Florida Fair are chickens, ducks, geese, pheasants, & more being exhibited by many different people. Some are considered personal pets and are not for sale, but many others are. This is where I do the majority of my poultry sales for the year. I find it discouraging to get the prices I want when selling them from my home, and also don't like dealing with having so many strangers coming to my place to look at my birds. But the Fair is a great place to sell, so many people come there looking for poultry to buy.
Exhibitors who wish to sell their birds will usually place signs on their birds' cages AFTER the judging has finished. You may have been there too early to see them go up. You will have to negotiate with the owner, the people at the tent won't usually handle sales for someone else. Like me, most people who have birds to sell will put their phone numbers on their signs.
Also, since all these birds are considered part of the Fair exhibit, they must stay at the Fair until after 8pm closing day Sun Jan 30 (unless the owner has another bird at home to put in its place, then you can pick up on Sun Jan 23.) Or you can arrange with your seller to deliver, or pick up at their place. I like having my buyers pick up from the Fair, to reduce the stress on the birds.
I looked at the Americanas, there weren't signs on them yet, but I know the lady exhibiting them and she often puts her birds up for sale. Jason, are you planning to come back to the Fair again?
I have some large-fowl pullets and a few hens & roosters for sale, a nice gold-laced Polish cockerel, runner ducks and a trio of Embden geese. Let me know if you or someone you know is looking for birds like these.
