Perhaps Mass or Conn or the north west is allway's a good choice, for tree hugers & liberals OOhh yeah let's not forget California that I think is like the Mecca for folks that are of like mind, I am pretty sure they don't like Lynching out there. With home prices dropping like a stone your choices may open up a bit, you may have to broaden your views to be able to look into more area's. Good luck on your search, there should be plenty to choose from.

I am not interested in keeping livestock as pets. I want to keep livestock as livestock. I just want to be free to do so as an urban farmer. I want a small hobby farm to support my family. Thanks again for your input.

To others that have asked, I need a mortgage equal to or less than my current one which is $130k. That does not seem easy to come by. I would stay put, but my local area does not allow chickens and no one can even tell me why. I am trying to "stay where I'm at, dig in and make things better" but sometimes I just wish I didn't have to work so hard at changing people's minds towards things like backyard chickens.

Okay Florida peeps, please answer a question for me. I live in central florida, I don't know how old my two chicks are. We've had them for two weeks and they are about 75% feathered now and still living in the house at night with a warming light. They seem to like the light which is just a 60 watt bulb. Can they be put out in the coop withought the light yet? Should I give them a week in the house without their night light first?

Progressivehomaker, the Deland area is nice. Small town with Stetson University. It's in NW Volusia. People have horses in the city limits so you should be able to have chickens. Housing prices are getting back to reality and with all the foreclosures, it's a buyers market. I live 10 miles from town and can have anything. Ignore that Al guy from Oklahoma. How rude!

Silly Chickens, I tricked them! My 11 girls only seemed to like 2 of the 4 nest boxes only using the other 2 occassionally. Yesterday ran across an old package of plastic easter eggs. Put one in each of seldom used nest boxes. So far today all eggs have been laid in those 2 boxes. So now I have a blue, a pink, a yellow and a green egg in their nest. Lets see which color they like best. So far 4 on pink egg and 1 on yellow.
