Broaden my views on what? My views are about as broad as they come. Most times I am not the one who is having issues with folks who are different from me, most times it is them who do not like me for being different. Make sense?
I am not interested in keeping livestock as pets. I want to keep livestock as livestock. I just want to be free to do so as an urban farmer. I want a small hobby farm to support my family. Thanks again for your input.
To others that have asked, I need a mortgage equal to or less than my current one which is $130k. That does not seem easy to come by. I would stay put, but my local area does not allow chickens and no one can even tell me why. I am trying to "stay where I'm at, dig in and make things better" but sometimes I just wish I didn't have to work so hard at changing people's minds towards things like backyard chickens.
polk county is cheep! you'll find a nice property for 130

Any help with where to get our chickens, we would like to get 3 rhode island reds and 3 americana. We would like pullets and to get from a hatchery we would have to buy 15 at a time of each breed. Any suggestions!!

If you are happy with hatchery quality as opposed to show quality - - - - then call your local feed stores ( NOT Tractor supply). Most feed stores have chicks in NOW and will continue to get them in every couple of weeks for the next month or so. .. .
We will check with the feed stores in our area Tuesday, I was also thinking if anyone near the Naples area is interested in getting some pullets maybe we could put an order together. I have the room 12 chickens but I really don't want to start with that many, we are new to this and I think that 6 is a good number for us to start with.
