FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Hi again, I don't actually have any chickens yet. I've recently decided that I want some and found this site when I was checking online about how to do it. I like to have as much info as I can before I jump into things so thank God for the internet. You can find everything you could possibly want to know. But so far I'm liking the silver laced wyandottes the best. I'm thinking of starting off with maybe 2 hens. Does anyone happen to know if this breed does ok in the south Florida heat?

Hey Alice,

Ours seems to do just fine in our flock, the EE's so far do the best for us. I noticed last year the darker the bird the more trouble theynhad mid summer, so reducing our dark colored flock and adding in lighter colored birds. Welcome to BYC and the FL thread.

Yeah I thought it was funny too, but yes I read everyone saying that you should plan your coop to have more than you plan on having lol. Plus my son is 13 months and I'm thinking when he's a little older I want to let him pick out his own little chickee and learn to take care of it

Hello from your neighbor also in Loxahatchee! You're welcome to contact me and come by to see my flocks. There is also a "chicken club" that meets monthly, we're having our next meeting this Friday. You need not actually own any chickens to come, we also have a potluck dinner & a white elephant raffle each time. http://www.poultryfanciers.com/ Hope to see you there!

Looks good! They will kick pine shavings out like crazy though. Maybe put a little low guard to block the shavings from coming out of the front. How many watts is the heat bulb? It may need to be adjusted up or down to make a comfortable temperature for the babies. I'm so happy for you!

The door actially has a 2.5" lip on it..maye I'll add to it!!

I only have a 40w bulb, so I have to get a different one....and the lamp is adjustable...so I'll figure it out! lol

Juan,

Cardboard added the door will block the bedding from kicking out.

Ok, just came home with another Brinsea bator, lol. Oh and reserved a cabinet bator (GQF 1502 sportsman) when it comes in I am thinking about thinning the Brinsea bators out and selling 2 or 3 lol.
